ROYAL AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT AWARDS
The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia (RA&HS) has launched the Royal Australian Spirit Awards (RASA), to be held in conjunction with the Royal Adelaide Beer and Cider Awards (RABCA). Recognising the success of Australia’s ever-growing craft spirits industry, the Royal Australian Spirit Awards are open to distillers from across Australia and New Zealand, and will feature classes for brandy, gin, rum, vodka, whisky and other spirits. This is the first time in the RA&HS’s 180-year history that spirits have been included in Royal Adelaide Show competitions. Beer was first judged back in 1844 and following the reintroduction of the competitions, 2018 is the eighth year of competition for Beer and fifth for Cider.
Medals will be up for grabs in approximately 20 individual classes, and trophies will be presented for Champion Whisky, Vodka, Rum, Gin, Brandy and Other Spirits. Major awards will be presented for Champion Spirit of Show and Champion Small Batch. All entrants in the beer, cider and spirit competitions receive personalised feedback from nationally-recognised judges.
