Urrbrae Agricultural High School will deliver the Learning Centre at the Royal Adelaide Show for the next three years, following an agreement between the Department for Education, the Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RA&HS) and Urrbrae.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will see all parties work collaboratively over the three-year period to coordinate the management, sponsorship support and delivery of the Learning Centre.
Urrbrae Agricultural High School Principal Joslyn Fox said the agreement was an exciting opportunity for the school.
“I look forward to showcasing the interactive demonstrations and workshops we have on offer this year,” she said.
“Our students have always proudly taken ownership of the displays and demonstrations and get a lot of enjoyment out of sharing their specialised knowledge with visitors to the centre.”
Not only will the agreement mean continued support from the Department, RA&HS and Urrbrae in delivery of a key Show attraction, the partnership will help promote South Australia’s public education system, with Urrbrae showcasing its talented and capable students, staff and experience in agricultural teaching and learning.
The Learning Centre aims to teach the public about agriculture and where food and fibre comes from in a fun, interactive way. Educating the public for over 40 years, the Centre features baby animals to feed and pat, cow milking, sheep shearing, toy tractor rides, agricultural displays, and food workshops.
Approximately 250 Urrbrae students are involved in the Learning Centre during the Show, with around 80 students working there each day and 8-10 staff supervising.
